Self-healing potential of supplementary cementitious materials in cement mortars: Sorptivity and pore structure

چکیده

This paper presents the autogenic self-healing potential of Portland cement (PC) blends made with conventional supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), to improve water-tightness by reducing overall pore size. Mortar samples were prepared mixing PC, sand and water, partially replacing PC either silica fume (SF), pulverised fuel ash (PFA), or ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS). Damaged subjected a water bath heal microcracks recover water-tightness, further hydration starting minerals. Water absorption density measurements in undamaged, damaged healed conditions used determine autogenous healing SCMs mixes, showing post-healing recovery up 68% compared mix only. Thermal analysis, XRD MIP confirmed capability promote formation hydrated phases, reduce size more than 88% mixes.

Self-Healing in Cementitious Materials—A Review

Concrete is very sensitive to crack formation. As wide cracks endanger the durability, repair may be required. However, these repair works raise the life-cycle cost of concrete as they are labor intensive and because the structure becomes in disuse during repair. In 1994, C. Dry was the first who proposed the intentional introduction of self-healing properties in concrete. In the following year...

Designing Repeatable Self-Healing into Cementitious Materials

Designing self-healing into cementitious materials can open a new world of opportunities for resilient concrete infrastructure under service loading conditions. The self-healing process should be robust as well as repeatable, allowing for self-repair after multiple damage events. The repeatability poses great challenges when self-healing strategies mainly rely on the formation of low-strength c...

Investigation of self-healing in cementitious materials with sulfoaluminate cement microcapsules using X-ray computed tomography

This paper presents work toward the studying of a new family of self-healing cementitious material. This innovative system features the design of microcapsules with calcium sulfoaluminate cement (CSA) as healing agent. The aim of this study is to comprehensively monitor the whole crack-healing process of microcapsules based self-healing system by means of X-ray computed tomography (X-ray CT). I...

EFFICIENCY FACTOR OF SUPPLEMENTARY CEMENTITIOUS MATERIALS: A STATE OF ART

The use of supplementary cementing materials is gradually increasing due to technical, economical, and environmental benefits. Supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) are most commonly used in producing ready mixed concrete (RMC). A quantitative understanding of the efficiency of SCMs as a mineral admixture in concrete is essential for its effective utilisation. The performance and effective...

Experimental investigation of adhesive-based self-healing of cementitious materials

This paper presents the results of a series of self-healing experiments conducted on reinforced mortar beams containing adhesive-filled glass reservoirs. An overview of the findings of the preliminary investigation stage of experiments is given in addition to the results of a parametric study which investigates the effect of the level of reinforcement and loading rate on the amount of self-heal...
